Welcome to the second installment of Drilling Innovative Solutions’ new video segment: In Our Shop! In these videos, co-founder and CFO Patrick Stokes will be showing and explaining DIS’ innovative tools that have saved rig time and money for countless major operators.
Just as in our entry about the Gatekeeper Cement Retaining Collar, this exclusive behind-the-scenes look at our innovative Sentinel Drilling Safety Float Valve takes place in our shop in Lafayette, LA, where we enjoy easy access to many of our partners that operate in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico. This facility houses manufacturing, assembly, testing and more—and despite its relatively small size, it can easily handle equipping some of the biggest names in Oil and Gas on several operations from South America to the North Sea!
Watch In Our Shop With The Sentinel Drilling Safety Float Valve
Before the revolutionary Sentinel Drilling Safety Float Valve was created, oil and gas drilling operations were stuck with standard drilling safety floats. With their inconsistent sealing, slamming, low resistance to vibration and other issues—these floats often wasted costly rig time and emitted much more carbon than is necessary as a result. This invariably led to great expense for operators and lower profits as a result.
Necessity is, of course; the mother of invention—so it’s fitting that these problems were what led to the design and development of The Sentinel: a drilling safety float valve that successfully eliminated these issues and helped to usher in a new era of efficiency. In addition to consistent sealing and non-slamming operations, the Sentinel boasts many other features that have made them the gold standard for many oil and gas drilling operations:
- Available in two variants: Drilling Safety Float Valve and Liner Running
- Can be used for high temperature and high pressure operations
- Field proven with over 400 Managed Pressure Drilling, Managed Pressure Cementing or High Temperature High Pressure applications
- Valves available in 3 sizes: 1.575”, 2.125” and 3.125” ID
- Can be supplied with custom specialty connections upon request
- Have undergone API 7NRV and 7V validation testing
The secret behind the revolutionary tech that helps the Sentinel save so much time and money is the flapper actuated ball valve, which is demonstrated in the video above. This simple yet effective device protects the sealing surface from the flow path to make sure it seals every time. As a result,
A few places where our Sentinels have been deployed to save time, money and carbon emissions for major operators include:
- Alaskan North Slope
- Canadian Rockies
- Texas Permian Basin
- Deepwater Gulf of Mexico
- Colombia Offshore
- Suriname Offishore
- The Black Sea
- And many more!
DIS is proud to stand behind the quality of all of our tools, and the Sentinel is no exception. Each tool undergoes a rigorous assembly process as well as a low and high pressure test before leaving the shop. We hope to have many more informative and educational videos about our products as we continue to innovate and solve problems.
